THE SHORT ANSWER

Confirm retired pay, health coverage and residency through their separate authorities. Military retirement, veteran status and VA disability eligibility are different matters; none should be used as a blanket approval for the others.

01

Identify which income is actually available

Use your own retired-pay statements and established benefit payments to build a net monthly income figure. Confirm deductions, withholding and survivor-related elections through the appropriate administrator. Do not use a retirement calculator, a disability-rating guess or a social-media estimate as proof of an entitlement.

02

Keep pay access practical

DFAS provides information about domestic direct deposit and international direct deposit for eligible overseas locations. Confirm the current arrangement for your circumstances and chosen account directly. Check banking access, fees, currency conversion and authentication while abroad. This guide does not guarantee that a particular foreign bank or country arrangement is available.

03

Verify the correct overseas healthcare track

Review your plan with TRICARE before the move and keep your DEERS information current. If Medicare applies, confirm the Part B requirements relevant to continued TRICARE coverage. Do not assume moving overseas cancels premiums or deductibles. Use the dedicated TRICARE guide for official starting points.

04

Separate VA benefits from general health insurance

The VA Foreign Medical Program addresses specific qualifying care; it is not a promise to cover every medical need overseas. The Manila clinic has its own enrollment and appointment process. Review the separate VA guide and confirm eligibility and current access directly before relying on either.

05

Ask PRA about your actual immigration category

PRA publishes military-related eligibility provisions in its retirement program materials. Ask for case-specific evaluation rather than assuming every U.S. military retiree qualifies for a Courtesy category. Obtain the current document, fee and deposit requirements before making commitments.

06

Choose the destination around normal life

Compare medical access, housing, transport, weather and the routines you need. A location associated with former military facilities is not proof of current U.S. services, base access or healthcare benefits. Trial rentals can help test Clark, Davao, Cebu or other destinations without a property purchase becoming the only exit.

07

Keep your planning brief general

Share destination, timing and broad budget information if you want a follow-up. Benefit letters, military service records, identity numbers and medical records belong with the appropriate official or secure professional process. This website is independent and claims no affiliation with the U.S. military, VA, DFAS or TRICARE.
